The modern man loves to dress well, appear intelligent and confident.

Doing so is not very hard, IF, you don’t try to be someone else. Sometimes it is not about wearing good clothes, or fancy accessories. It’s about knowing what fits your body and your personality.

When you feel good about the clothes you wear, naturally it will elevate your confidence and positivity. With natural confidence and positivity, opportunities in your personal and professional life will begin to appear as well. People tend to be attracted by confidence and positivity. Most successful people you admire are confident, and have a a positive mindset in life.

I’m going to share 6 simple guidelines to help find your style:

1. Be honest with yourself

Everyone has their own style and preference. What is yours? And don’t listen to your family on how to dress, you’re an adult. Friend’s suggestions are great, but they don’t live your life. Role models are great, but they may have a different personality than yours.

So be honest with yourself. What is your personality like? Figure out what style fits you the most! Knowing what to wear to look outstanding, get to know your own taste.

Think about the avengers in the marvel series. They are all alpha males/females. But they all have different personality and styles. And let’s be real, they all look darn good.

Is your personality more of a Tony Stark? Captain America? Thor? Spiderman? These are just a few examples. Don’t think about who you want to be, think about who matches you closest.

2. Accessories

I personally love accessories.

Accessories might not be for everyone. But having a one or two items is still important. The important people tend to look at details.

Such accessories include: cufflinks, belt, wristwatches, sunglasses, footwear, suspenders, and ties.

The choice of accessory speaks a lot about your personality. A man should be mindful of what items to choose as it sends out a signal to others if you are loud, shy, serious, outgoing, etc.

3. Fitted Clothes

You’re an adult. Dress the part atleast, unless you’re a rapper or celebrity find clothes that fit you. Fitted clothes don’t have to be expensive. Plenty of stores offer fitted styles. Choosing the appropriate sizes of clothing and making sure you find the right fit will improve your appearance. Accompany well-fitting clothes with the right accessories, such as cufflinks, a tie, and a nice wristwatch.

These are a few watches I personally like to use these days. I have been a lot more casual though.

4. Exercise

This maybe not a dressing tip, but it’s such an important part of confidence I just can’t neglect it. Go workout, eat right, get fit! When you feel good about your body, you’ll be even more comfortable in those new clothes you wear, which in result will boost your confidence.

Clothes will definitely look better when you’re more in shape.

5. Wallets

You might find this strange to be on the list. But there are two things men show off the most. One is their timepiece, and second is the wallet. Wallets speak a-lot about a person’s style.

We are always reaching for our wallets to pay for items, and people do notice.

Think about the guys that carry bulky leather wallets with a million cards, cash and receipts that are overflowing. The leather worn down and stitches coming off. What type of guy are you picturing?

Then think about the guy that only carries a money clip with a few cards. What does he look like?

Or the guy with a nice designer wallet that has just enough card and cash in the wallet. It’s kept in good condition, clean and functional. What kind of guy do you picture now?

Or there is the ones with minimalist wallets that have all their important cards and cash tightly together. What’s this guy like?

After picturing these 4 different type of guys, which type fits you best?

I personally used to use a black leather Bottega Veneta wallet which I loved. But it seemed that everyone in Asia had the same wallet.

So now I use a minimalist wallet from MIKOL. I like how it’s compact, carries all the cards I need and cash. Fits perfectly in my front pocket so I don’t have to worry about pickpockets or falling out. And lastly, because it’s stylish being made with real marble which means a lot from my construction background.

6. Knowing the occassion

As this is only a guideline, it wont’ fit your every occasion. Make sure your outfit is fitting to the occasion. Standing out in a bad way is quick way to lower your confidence level. Jeans, t shirt and accessories at a job interview probably won’t help getting you a job. You need to know what outfits to wear for the occasion.

But once you discover your style and what is unique to you. Overtime you will know how to dress “your personality” to every event with the right attire.

Good luck and have fun! Be confident in your choice! You’re the one setting the trend, not others!
